The Secular Pro-Life Position – Stanford University Presentation

February 21, 2014 /4 Comments/in Speeches, Discussions, Presentations, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

On Wednesday evening, SPL gave a presentation to the Stanford Students for Life discussing why we need secular arguments against abortion and what some of those secular arguments are. The presentation was followed by a great question and answer session with the students. To see the presentation and most of* the Q&A, click here, or […]

So I met some sidewalk counselors.

February 14, 2014 /25 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Note: All of the quotes in this blog post are paraphrases, not actual quotes. Meeting at the sidewalk. A couple weeks ago, during the SFLA conference, I met a woman named Wynette who also lives in my area. She asked me to get in touch if I was interested in doing any local pro-life work. […]

Encouraging secular participation.

February 4, 2014 /21 Comments/in Religion /by Monica Snyder

The weekend before last I had a wonderful time meeting up with other SPL members and representing Secular Pro-Life at San Francisco’s various pro-life events. On Saturday afternoon, SPL spoke at the Walk for Life West Coast rally, then gathered together and held our banner high for the entire Walk. On Sunday, pro-life atheist Ellen […]

Speech: Monica Snyder at the Walk for Life West Coast 2014

January 29, 2014 /10 Comments/in Speeches, Discussions, Presentations, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

WFLWC 2014 Attendance Broke Records Most years we write a blog post filled with photos examining the religious nature of the Walk for Life West Coast, and the anti-religious nature of its counter-protesters.  However, this year we had the honor of speaking at the Walk on behalf of Secular Pro-Life, so this year the blog […]

Does the “16 & Pregnant” franchise decrease teen birth rates?

January 27, 2014 /4 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

According to Eliana Dockterman at TIME: Whereas 16 and Pregnant only traces the nine months leading to birth, Teen Mom follows the lives of the same teens after the baby showers are over and the reality of life with a baby sets in. A typical episode of the show follows the new moms as they […]

The “Anti-Choice War On Women”

January 23, 2014 /26 Comments/in Pro-Life Demographics, Research /by Monica Snyder

(Note: You can click on any image to see a larger version.) Every now and then I see this resurface: I’d be interested to know how they’re defining “anti-abortion leaders”… The first implication is that men shouldn’t have a say in the abortion debate, a ludicrous claim we’ve addressed before. The next implication is that the […]

Child Support

January 20, 2014 /347 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

When arguing about abortion, I’ve seen a lot of people claim “sex isn’t a contract.” Other variations of this idea include: ·        Consent to A doesn’t mean consent to B (that is, consent to sex doesn’t mean consent to reproduction).·        You clearly don’t consent to reproduce if you use birth control.·        Sex is not a […]

Why would a woman want an abortion?

December 30, 2013 /66 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

A follower recently posted this clip to Secular Pro-Life’s Facebook page and asked for our thoughts. (If this link ever stops working, Youtube “Maddow Buchy”) The clip is not new–it’s from the fall of 2012–but it’s worth considering.  My first reaction was disgust at this PR disaster. An older, white male talking about how he’s […]

Abortion & Maternity Leave

December 6, 2013 /3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

This CNN piece by David Frum implies that better maternity rates and other social support for mothers causes abortion rates to drop. A woman who enjoys the most emotional and financial security and who has chosen the timing of her pregnancy will not choose abortion, even when abortion laws are liberal. A woman who is dominated, […]

November 21, 2013 /3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Check out Working Mother’s magazine’s list of the 100 best companies for working mothers (and families in general) for 2013.
