Humanity has a long history of condoning infanticide

January 6, 2023 /0 Comments/in Late-Term Abortion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

In November 2017, the digital magazine Aeon published “Infanticide,” an article giving an historical overview of the practice across cultures. Some passages jumped out at me. Here is a TikTok summary and below it is the blog post version. For example (emphasis added): If there’s one thing we can still agree on in this era […]

15 areas of common ground in the abortion debate

The following are areas that I think should be easy common ground for pro-life and pro-choice people. What would you add?

New York Times profiles a mother who is glad she didn’t get an abortion.

January 1, 2023 /0 Comments/in Legislation, laws, and court cases, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

The New York Times recently published ‘I’m Not Ready’: A Mother Denied an Abortion in Texas Faces an Uncertain Future. A few notes: Last year Tamara Nelson was a pregnant mother of three, denied an abortion under Texas’ restrictive laws. 1. We still have people almost daily tell us that abortion laws don’t stop people […]

Responses to The Burning IVF Lab

November 16, 2022 /0 Comments/in Philosophy, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

The Thought Experiment The Burning IVF Lab (also referred to as the Burning Fertility Clinic) is a thought experiment intended to demonstrate that people opposed to abortion don’t sincerely believe embryos are valuable human beings. The idea is that an IVF lab is on fire and you can save either a group of embryos (sometimes […]

Guardian article “What a pregnancy actually looks like” erases embryos

October 20, 2022 /0 Comments/in Biology, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

On October 19, Guardian Senior Staff writer Poppy Noor published “What a pregnancy actually looks like before 10 weeks – in pictures.” The article reprints photographs from the MYA Network (“MY Abortion” network) of aborted pregnancy tissue and quotes an abortion provider of the same network, Dr. Joan Fleischman. Given the title and the framing […]

Freedom of religion doesn’t justify abortion

October 17, 2022 /0 Comments/in Late-Term Abortion, Religion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[Esta publicación está disponible en español aquí.] Earlier this year Ana Kasparian of the Young Turks gave a quick rant about how the Bible has no say in what women can do with their bodies. Here is our response in video form with transcription below. Ana Kasparian clip: I don’t care that you’re a Christian. I […]

Finding mental health counselors for secular post-abortion healing

October 10, 2022 /0 Comments/in Religion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Secular resources are necessary At Secular Pro-Life, we’re repeatedly asked about resources for secular people who experience emotional and mental health issues after abortion. Pro-life programs such as Rachel’s Vineyard and Silent No More are devoted to helping people heal, but these programs are overtly faith-based and may not be a good fit for atheists, […]

Study: Is third-trimester abortion exceptional?

October 3, 2022 /0 Comments/in Late-Term Abortion, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

In April 2022, Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health published Is third-trimester abortion exceptional? Two pathways to abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy in the United States by Katrina Kimport. The article is open access, meaning anyone can read it in its entirety. Third trimester abortions aren’t all for medical emergencies. Many Americans–pro-choice and pro-life […]

“The unborn” are a convenient group…

September 30, 2022 /0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

People repeatedly post the following quote: “The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t as you to […]

Pro-choice vs Pro-life vocabulary

September 28, 2022 /0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

I adjust the vocabulary I use in my work depending on my target audience. For example, if I’m giving a speech to a pro-life crowd, I’ll inevitably use certain words and phrases that I would avoid when giving a presentation to predominantly pro-choice students. I change it up because, most of the time, I want […]
