September 16, 2022 /0 Comments/in Late-Term Abortion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Melissa Block with NPR spoke to Dr. Diane Horvath and Morgan Nuzzo about the clinic they are opening in Maryland, “Partners in Abortion Care.” Calling it an “all trimester” clinic, the article specifies When it opens sometime after Labor Day, Partners in Abortion Care will be one of only a handful of clinics in the […]

My appointment for an abortion at 28 weeks

September 7, 2022 /0 Comments/in Late-Term Abortion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

On January 12, 2022, I was 27 weeks and 1 day pregnant when I called the Washington Surgi-Clinic in Washington DC to schedule an abortion for the following week. The woman on the phone was upbeat and friendly. She offered me an appointment for January 20, acknowledging by then I would be 28 weeks and […]

Life Chat Podcast episode: “Secular Pro-Life: Crucial in the abortion debate.”

August 8, 2022 /0 Comments/in Biology, Bodily Rights, Personhood, Pro-Life Demographics, Religion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[Special thanks to volunteer Samantha S. for her transcription work. If you’d like to volunteer to transcribe or translate, please fill out our volunteer survey.] Illinois Right to Life (IRTL) was kind enough to host me on their podcast, Life Chat, with this flattering episode title “Secular Pro-Life: Crucial in the abortion debate.” IRTL Executive […]

Our miscarried children weren’t parasites.

July 23, 2022 /0 Comments/in Biology, Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

(Transcript below video.) Transcript: When pro-choice people conceptualize the embryo as a parasite, and pathologize pregnancy as our body’s failure to rid ourselves of a parasite, there’s another element of that discourse that I want to touch on. And that is how this kind of framing affects people who have experienced pregnancy loss. I have […]

Some differences between embryos and parasites.

July 19, 2022 /0 Comments/in Biology, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[Esta publicación está disponible en español aquí.] A few people asked us to respond to the “fetus is a parasite” TikTok. We posted some thoughts from Dr. Calum Miller here. I added to his points in this TikTok (transcript below video): Yeah this is not accurate in terms of biology. There’s a lot in it that’s […]

NPR admits abortion restrictions decrease abortion rates, then tries to backtrack

July 8, 2022 /0 Comments/in Legislation, laws, and court cases, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

NPR recently published “Do restrictive abortion laws actually reduce abortion? A global map offers insights.” Correspondent Michaeleen Doucleff begins the article asking “In countries where abortion is illegal, are there fewer abortions?” and then continues “The question sounds simple, but it’s tough to answer.” It’s not a tough question to answer, though. Doucleff answers it […]

Don’t have time to read Dobbs? Here’s our notes.

July 6, 2022 /1 Comment/in Legislation, laws, and court cases, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

If you don’t want to read the 213 page opinion yourself, here are some brief notes I took. First and foremost: “Held: The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.” The Court argues that […]

Responding to 16 pro-choice claims about Dobbs, the pro-life movement, and abortion bans

June 27, 2022 /3 Comments/in Adoption and Foster Care, Legislation, laws, and court cases, Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss, Pro-Life Demographics, Religion, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

1. Abortion bans mean women won’t be able to get treatment for ectopic pregnancy. There are currently no abortion laws that outlaw treatment of ectopic pregnancy. Quite the opposite, many state laws explicitly exempt treatment of ectopic pregnancy from their definitions of abortion. For example, last year’s Texas Heartbeat Law incorporated Texas’ Health & Safety […]

Responding to Jane’s Revenge and their criminal temper tantrum

June 17, 2022 /0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

The group Jane’s Revenge is (depending on who you ask) an anarchist collective securing reproductive freedom or a far-left terrorist organization pitching (violent) fits. In the past weeks they have taken credit (blame?) for vandalizing and/or firebombing pregnancy resource centers, typically including variations of the slogan “If abortions aren’t safe, then neither are you.” See […]

Statistics demonstrating you don’t have to be religious to be pro-life

May 25, 2022 /0 Comments/in Pro-Life Demographics, Religion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[Much of the following information is also available as a Twitter thread here.] You don’t have to be religious to be against abortion, as evidenced by the existence of pro-life atheists (like us), agnostics, and other non-religious people. For pro-choicers who argue otherwise, the thought process seems to be “religious people are pro-life, so if […]
