Child Support

January 20, 2014 /347 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

When arguing about abortion, I’ve seen a lot of people claim “sex isn’t a contract.” Other variations of this idea include: ·        Consent to A doesn’t mean consent to B (that is, consent to sex doesn’t mean consent to reproduction).·        You clearly don’t consent to reproduce if you use birth control.·        Sex is not a […]

Why would a woman want an abortion?

December 30, 2013 /66 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

A follower recently posted this clip to Secular Pro-Life’s Facebook page and asked for our thoughts. (If this link ever stops working, Youtube “Maddow Buchy”) The clip is not new–it’s from the fall of 2012–but it’s worth considering.  My first reaction was disgust at this PR disaster. An older, white male talking about how he’s […]

Abortion & Maternity Leave

December 6, 2013 /3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

This CNN piece by David Frum implies that better maternity rates and other social support for mothers causes abortion rates to drop. A woman who enjoys the most emotional and financial security and who has chosen the timing of her pregnancy will not choose abortion, even when abortion laws are liberal. A woman who is dominated, […]

November 21, 2013 /3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Check out Working Mother’s magazine’s list of the 100 best companies for working mothers (and families in general) for 2013. Some samples: Citi – In the frantic, heady days after the arrival of a child, having enough time at home is everything. Understanding that, this financial services company gives women up to 13 fully paid […]

Dear Jezebel: Real friends don’t count chromosomes.

July 16, 2013 /12 Comments/in Ableism, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

According to the Washington Times, there was a couple planning to abort their child diagnosed with Down syndrome. A priest made a deal with the couple–if he could find a good home for the baby before their state’s deadline for late-term abortions, the couple would not abort. The priest’s church reached out through Facebook for […]

“How could she not know she was pregnant?”

June 28, 2013 /75 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Slate has a short piece on women who go into labor without even realizing they were pregnant to begin with: For a woman who doesn’t think she could be pregnant, many of the classic signs can be explained away. Fetal movement? It could be gas or indigestion. Morning sickness? A stomach virus. Weight gain? Bad […]

Douglas Karpen is the New Kermit Gosnell

May 20, 2013 /1 Comment/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[This post is reprinted with permission from Difficult Run.] Aside from wishing that people would simply not talk about Kermit Gosnell at all, pro-choice groups in American politics would really like everyone to understand that Kermit Gosnell was a horrific aberration. As a group, the pro-choice movement tends to circle the wagon around late-term abortionists and […]

Gosnell and Abortion, Part 3 of 3

April 19, 2013 /3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

In the first post, I introduced the theme that pro-choice journalists are unconsciously avoiding directly covering the Gosnell case because it would cause cognitive dissonance and provided the first example: the Gosnell case would reveal just how liberal and out-of-touch the abortion status quo is in this country. In the second post I got to the […]

Walk for Life West Coast 2013

January 29, 2013 /13 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

(You should be able to click on the photos to see larger versions. See additional photos here.) Several SPL supporters and I attended San Francisco’s annual Walk for Life West Coast last Saturday. The WFLWC includes an hour long rally at the Civic Center before marching down Market St. through the center of San Francisco’s […]

Lisa Harris, Abortion Provider

December 12, 2012 /9 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

The Weekly Standard describes former abortion providers who have converted to the pro-life cause. I found this passage particularly compelling: In 2008, however, abortionist Lisa Harris endeavored to begin “breaking the silence” in the pages of the journal Reproductive Health Matters. When she herself was 18 weeks pregnant, Dr. Harris performed a D&E abortion on an […]
