Abortion bans don’t lead to a surplus of unwanted children.

March 9, 2022 /0 Comments/in Adoption & Foster Care, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Some pro-choice people predict that abortion restrictions or bans will lead to a major increase in unwanted children. They occasionally claim abortion restrictions will lead to miserable, trapped mothers and abused, neglected children, an idea that is also behind the (tenuous) connection they draw between abortion restrictions and the foster care system. For example: Several […]

Responding to 7 pro-choice claims about embryonic hearts

February 23, 2022 /0 Comments/in Biology, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

1. Embryos don’t have hearts. They have groups of pulsing cells where the heart will eventually form. The embryonic period is defined as the first stage of the pregnancy up to 11 weeks gestation. The embryonic heart–including atria, ventricles, and related structures–is present by 6 weeks gestation. We have collected multiple scientific and medical sources […]

2022 March for Life Recap: many paths leading to the same place.

January 26, 2022 /0 Comments/in Pro-Life Demographics /by Monica Snyder

The March for Life January 21, 2022 – This was my first time attending the DC March for Life. Until recently I lived in Northern California, so I had always attended the San Francisco Walk for Life instead. The DC March was, first and foremost, much colder, wow. It was also much larger! To be […]

New peer-reviewed article: Fetal Pain in the First Trimester

January 24, 2022 /0 Comments/in Biology, Later Abortion, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

On December 6, 2021, The Linacre Quarterly published Dr. Bridget Thill’s dissertation “Fetal Pain in the First Trimester.” The article is written for a medical audience, with over 100 references to research in medical journals published from 1936 through 2021. If you can read the entire article, do, but for those who aren’t able to, […]

The phrase “spontaneous abortion” is not pro-choice propaganda.

January 20, 2022 /0 Comments/in Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

“Spontaneous abortion” is the medical term for a miscarriage. Many people have expressed confusion and hurt regarding this phrase, believing that it’s trying to equivocate between a miscarriage and an elective abortion or that it’s suggesting a woman gets an abortion casually. As someone who has had two miscarriages, I understand the gravity and sensitivity […]

Study: Women considering abortion who visit CPCs are more likely to continue their pregnancies

January 12, 2022 /0 Comments/in Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

In July of 2021, PLOS One published “Pregnancy outcomes after exposure to crisis pregnancy centers among an abortion-seeking sample recruited online.” As of the time of this article, the research is fully available without journal access, if you’d like to read it directly. Here are some notes: The authors have pro-choice affiliations but, in my […]

Abortion laws decrease abortion rates internationally, but high unintended pregnancy rates can mask this effect

December 17, 2021 /4 Comments/in Legislation, laws, & court cases, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[Esta publicación está disponible en español aquí.] [A version of this post is available on Twitter here.] In September 2020, The Lancet published “Unintended pregnancy and abortion by income, region, and the legal status of abortion: estimates from a comprehensive model for 1990-2019.” The study discussed three factors: Higher UIP drives up abortion rates. Stricter abortion […]

If SCOTUS wants to stay out of religious debates, it should overturn Roe v. Wade

December 6, 2021 /0 Comments/in Biology, Legislation, laws, & court cases, Religion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

I originally wrote this article for TownHall. Reprinted here with permission. [Esta publicación está disponible en español aquí.] On December 1 the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the case debating the constitutionality of Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act, which many believe may lead to the Supreme Court weakening or […]

Getting an ultrasound the morning the Texas Heartbeat Law went into effect

December 6, 2021 /0 Comments/in Biology, Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

I’ve long wanted four children. I have a 6-year-old daughter, a 4-year-old daughter, and a 2-year-old son. My son was originally a twin, but we lost his sibling in the first trimester. I grieved (and still grieve), but I also knew that pregnancies with multiples often have problems, and I was not afraid to try […]

Thanks for helping us go to the Dobbs rally!

December 4, 2021 /3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

The Dobbs rally was excellent. Our signs and banner got a lot of attention: images ended up in major outlets such as the Los Angeles Times and New York Times and got some notice from pro-choice commentators and bloggers. Meanwhile my speech about the erasure of pro-life women and the harm of destigmatized abortion went over […]
