Quick News Roundup: 10/28/10

October 28, 2010/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Matthew Newman
Domestic News: On Wednesday, a judge in Arizona refused requests to block recently passed abortion legislation. According to local news sources, the legislation “…say[s] doctors must be the ones to do everything from determining the gestational age of the fetus to a remaining on the premises until all patients undergoing any kind of surgical abortion are stable and ready to leave.” The Kansas Supreme Court ruled that the 107-charge criminal case against Planned Parenthood be remanded to District Court for prosecution. Some pro-life activists are concerned from a timeline of events included in the ruling regarding who knew what, when.

International News: Amnesty International is planning to pressure Peru into legalizing abortion. It is reported that on Wednesday, Amnesty International’s Secretary General provided a petition with 11,000 signatures to the Peruvian Vice Minister of Health. In the United Kingdom, Conservative MP Therese Coffey proposed legislation that would require women to be made aware of the psychological risks associated with abortions prior to having one. The proposal is based on recommendations from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2008.

Discussion Topic: Once the election is over, we will see what the makeup of the incoming Congress and many local State Legislatures will look like. What is your hope for the upcoming, 2011 Congressional session or your local legislative sessions?
