I got published in a philosophy journal.

March 20, 2026 in Administrative, Philosophy, Research, SPL Emails, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

In 2024, JAMA Pediatrics published “Infant Deaths After Texas’ 2021 Ban on Abortion in Early Pregnancy,” which argued that “abortion restrictions may have negative spillover effects on infant health.” The paper was filled with questionable and frankly ableist assumptions, and I wanted to respond somewhere beyond SPL’s blog. I spoke with Nicholas Colgrove about it. […]

AAP updates guidelines for prenatal care of babies with Trisomy 13 or 18

March 18, 2026 in Ableism, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

March is Trisomy Awareness Month, and March 18 is Trisomy 18 Awareness Day. Happy to write to you today with some good news. Historically, when parents received a prenatal diagnosis of Trisomy 13 or 18, medical teams would tell them the conditions are fatal. If parents still wanted to try to give their children the […]

Why pregnancy centers should offer miscarriage kits: an interview with Chaney Gooley and Rachel Owen

March 9, 2026 in Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

I spoke with Chaney Gooley, a nonprofit consultant for Heaven’s Gain, and Rachel Owen, the CEO of Infinite Worth, about miscarriage kits, which are tools for helping loss parents identify and preserve embryonic or fetal remains in the course of at-home miscarriages. The three of us talked about the major gaps in society’s approach to […]

March 2, 2026 in Administrative, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

SPL is Very Online. Our primary mission is to advance secular arguments against abortion, and we do that mainly by creating a lot of online content. In 2025 we published an e-book, wrote 160 blog articles, posted over 500 tweets, uploaded over 1,000 videos, and shared nearly 1,500 images. Creating content is one thing, but […]

SPL followers share why pro-life doctors are so crucial

February 24, 2026 in SPL Emails, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Hi All – This weekend I’ll be training pro-life doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals at the annual conference for the American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs (AAPLOG). I’ll be teaching attendees how to have persuasive and useful conversations with pro-choice colleagues, friends, and family. As I prep my training, I’m struck by how absolutely crucial […]

Open letter to Trump Administration about ICE detention of pregnant women

February 11, 2026 in Administrative, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

(A PDF version of this letter is available here.) Re: Protections for Pregnant, Postpartum, and Nursing Women in Immigration Custody Dear President Trump, Secretary Noem, and Acting Director Lyons: We write as pro-life organizations to urge the immediate reinstatement and enforcement of federal protections that prevent the detention of pregnant, postpartum, and nursing women, except […]

Study: fetuses show consciousness in second half of pregnancy

February 11, 2026 in Biology, Personhood, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Do fetuses have sensory experiences? In the ongoing discussions about fetal pain and fetal consciousness, some groups have argued fetuses have no sensory experiences throughout all of pregnancy. They say the neuroinhibitors in fetal blood continually sedate them, so they aren’t likely to experience pain (or anything else) until they’re born. Some abortion advocates use […]

We’re training pro-life doctors.

February 6, 2026 in Administrative, Speeches, Discussions, Presentations, SPL Emails, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

I’m delighted to report that the American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs (AAPLOG) has invited me to present at their MBEC Conference in three weeks (Feb 28) in Seattle, Washington. I’ll be sharing insights from SPL’s Building Bridges presentation to train pro-life medical professionals to have better dialogue with pro-choice colleagues and friends. We created Building Bridges to help pro-lifers have […]

Recap: March for Life 2026

February 4, 2026 in Administrative, Pro-Life Demographics, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Every year, thousands of pro-lifers gather at the Capitol for the March for Life. What results is basically a week-long national pro-life reunion, with lots of opportunities for networking and collaboration. In years past I’ve represented Secular Pro-Life by myself, but now that Herb Geraghty is on SPL’s team, we were able to cover twice […]
