Meet Herb, Our Chief Communications Officer

February 24, 2025/in Administrative, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Herb Geraghty is a pro-life atheist and former Executive Director of the renowned consistent life ethic organization Rehumanize International. Herb is a passionate advocate for the marginalized and vulnerable, and in no area has he contributed more than the defense of prenatal children.

Herb’s history of activism is extensive, but he’s particularly known for civil disobedience (entering and refusing to leave an abortion clinic) which resulted in his prosecution and incarceration in 2023. His sentence wouldn’t yet be complete, but in January 2025 the Trump administration pardoned Herb and his fellow incarcerated activists.

Herb’s pardon was a joy and relief. It also wasn’t fully expected, and it left some logistical questions. While he was incarcerated, Rehumanize had (understandably) hired their new Executive Director. So Herb walked out of prison free, but not knowing where he’d land next.

Meanwhile, Secular Pro-Life’s public reach and professional connections have been growing by leaps and bounds. Our team must grow too. And while we have an amazing volunteer base graciously contributing their talents, it’s hard to replace full-time focus.

So Herb and I carefully considered his passions and strengths as well as SPL’s organizational needs, and we were excited to realize there’s a lot of overlap. He has a bachelor’s in Communications and Political Science. He’s penned numerous articles on human rights issues, including abortion. He has a vast, remarkable background in public speaking, ranging from podium presentations at college campuses to megaphone messages outside the Supreme Court. He’s courageous, relentless, inspirational, and, in my opinion, hilarious.

I’m wildly proud of the work SPL already does, and I’m always looking for ways to get our ideas in front of more people. So I’m pretty excited to see Herb help grow our work in directions we previously didn’t have staff to pursue. SPL’s Chief Communications Officer takes point on media relations and event planning, two fields of influence I have barely touched. Herb is also positioned to contribute substantially to SPL’s speaking engagements and content creation.

SPL is working to build a pro-life case that the current American culture can understand and resonate with. I say all the time “Everyone should listen to us.” People think I’m joking. I’m really not. SPL can speak to moderate pro-choice people and on-the-fence Americans with a unique voice and framing, and Herb is going to help us do it.

Thanks to you, last year we covered all of our expenses. This year as we onboard a new position, our budget will of course increase. For the immediate future, our goal is to expand our monthly contributions by $3,000. For context, our current monthly donors contribute a range of $5 to $200 per month, with an average of $25 per month. These contributions add up. I celebrate every single person signing up to support us month-to-month. If you can join our core program and help us start Herb off with confidence, please do so here. (Make sure to check the box “Show my support by making this a monthly donation.”)

Help Herb Get Started

Thank you for being part of SPL’s team and believing in our mission. I’m excited for what this expansion will bring!

Monica

It’s crucial that we demonstrate that anyone can–and everyone should–oppose abortion. Thanks to you, we are working to change minds, transform our culture, and protect our prenatal children. Every donation supports our ability to provide nonsectarian, nonpartisan arguments against abortion. Read more details here. Please donate today.
