Screening of “Pro-Life Feminist” This Thursday in NYC

May 1, 2018/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

The short documentary film Pro-Life Feminist will be screened in Greenwich Village this Thursday, May 3, at 7:00 p.m. The screening is hosted by EXPECT, the young adult arm of the Human Life Review, and will be held at the Sheen Center Loreto Theater at 18 Bleecker Street, New York, NY—ironically, right next door to the Planned Parenthood center named for infamous eugenicist Margaret Sanger.

Best of all, Thursday’s screening will have all three subjects of the film in attendance! Destiny Herndon-De La Rosa, Christina Bennett, and Aimee Murphy will take part in a Q&A session, along with director Jim Hanon.

Tickets are $17, and it’s well worth it. As we said in our previous review of Pro-Life Feminist:

This film is less about pro-life feminist arguments (although they are included) and more about getting to know pro-life feminists as people. Granted, I know the three main subjects of the film personally; I’m biased. But showing where pro-life feminists are coming from—all three have relevant personal histories that color their perspective—might be our best hope for shattering the stereotypes that have held the pro-life movement back. Sometimes, we must humanize ourselves before we can humanize children in the womb.

Pro-Life Feminist is incredibly wide-ranging. Topics of discussion include everything from sexual assault, to the intersection of abortion and race, to pro-choice lawyers’ exploitation of the plaintiffs in Roe and Doe, to “bro-choice” objectification, to the strong women who inspire us, and so much more. And yet the narrative flows smoothly. The cinematography is gorgeous, too.

This documentary is incredibly thought-provoking and the Q&A is sure to be amazing. If you live anywhere near New York City, don’t miss your chance!
