April 8: Leave the Abortion Industry Day

March 25, 2013/3 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

And Then There Were None (ATTWN), the pro-life outreach founded by former abortion worker Abby Johnson, helps abortion center employees leave their grisly jobs, find new work, and get counseling. Although it’s been described as a “ministry,” ATTWN is officially non-sectarian. (For religious ex-workers, ATTWN does provide a spiritual adviser of his or her own faith, upon request.)

ATTWN is sponsoring Exodus 2013: Leave The Abortion Industry Day on April 8. Already, many abortion workers have contacted ATTWN for help. But just as there is a National Coming Out Day even though LGBT people can come out any time, a designated “exodus day” can bring particular attention to the issue and give someone that little extra push they might need.

Help get the word out by changing your facebook cover picture to this graphic!

A weird aside: When this event was announced, several people noted that the Bible verse of Exodus 20:13 is “Thou shalt not murder.” The organizers tell me that this was a complete coincidence. I believe them, because they plan to make it an annual thing, and Exodus 20:14 doesn’t work nearly as well.

Thank you for highlighting this even though it's run by Christians and described as a "ministry." I can see where that 'Christian-ese' term might be confusing or distancing for some. Followed that link and this looks like an amazing ministry: “And Then There Were None will help you find new job opportunities in your area. During that time, we will provide you with financial assistance to
make sure your rent and bills are paid, food is on the table, and gas
is in your car while you job hunt. We can provide you with free legal representation if you must take any kind of legal action against your former employer. ”

Just fyi (this is not a big criticism), this bit is a little confusing: "Although it's been described as a "ministry," ATTWN is officially non-sectarian. (For religious ex-workers, ATTWN does provide a spiritual
adviser of his or her own faith, upon request.)" I think I know what you mean by it, and if they use that term I'm sure I know what they mean. No biggie, just sounds like you aren't used to hearing or using those terms the ways they're usually used.

By default, virtually all ministries aimed beyond church members are "non-sectarian" — soup kitchens aren't going to check religious affiliations before serving food, for example. (Though depending on their particular denomination, they could be more or less picky about which other organizations they're willing to collaborate with. Or they might be willing to serve any and all but only offer explicitly "religious" services.)

Yes, we will have to come up with a new name for next year's exodus. But maybe, just maybe, 2013 will be the only year we even need to have an exodus… 🙂

I find it interesting that the loudest proponents for abortion being legalised were doctors.
