Abortion and Suicide in South Dakota

July 26, 2012/14 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Timmerie Millington

On Tuesday the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a law in South Dakota requiring that doctors tell their patients considering abortions that the abortion procedure increases her risk of committing suicide.

Considering the great post abortive impact on a woman’s physical and mental health, this is a reasonable decision that should be supported by pro-abortion and pro-life advocates. However; Planned Parenthood of North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and other pro-abortion organizations have all rallied against the law for the last seven years since it was passed.

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior narrates the below video.

Kimberly, A Member of Silent No More, shares her story after having had an abortion a few years prior to being married and having a daughter. She says:

“Although I loved my daughter and wanted to see her grow up, get married, and have children of her own, I constantly thought of suicide. It was better to die than to feel empty inside. I loved my little girl. But my heart was broken, yet I refused to understand why. “

Not all women have suicidal thoughts, but many women struggle after having an abortion. and because of this woman considering abortion should be warned. I applaud South Dakota and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals for valuing the woman’s life enough that she is warned of the increased risk of suicide in women who have abortions.

Abortion doesn't cause suicide, religiously motivated hate, social isolation, and shame causes suicide.

The vile and hate that you spew leads to real death, of actual people that have been born.

Do us all a favor and get arrested for disorderly conduct, please.

Troll post above. Abortion has clearly been linked to depression and suicide. That is why there are many help and support groups for woman who are having issues after their abortions.

The sorrow they feel can be remedied with support and love and healing, which these groups provide. If the above poster (or any others) are having sorrow issues following an abortion, or have otherwise been affected by abortion, please seek out a support group.

You need love and guidance through your healing process and I hope you find it. Best wishes to you. Let love and light prevail!

I had to go to a mental health facility for depression & anxiety (not abortion related), but there were 2 women there because they had had abortions & couldn't deal with the mental repercussions. One woman in particular talked with me and stated that until she had the actual abortion, she didn't allow herself to think of the fetus as a human being. Once she terminated the pregnancy, she realized she had facilitated the killing of another human being & was having difficulty forgiving herself. The pro abortion people don't want this brought up because the natural question is why are these women having psychological issues/committing suicide? Because they see the reality of what they have done (killed another human being), and feel guilty. It's not because social or religious groups pile on the shame, it's because they know inside that what they have done is wrong.

Abortion leads to suicide, the pro-lifers will make sure of it. Nobody does a better jobs of shaming, harassing, and threatening people.

Trolls, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Disassociate people from the social value that human life should be protected, that the taking of that life is wrong, and yes, you could probably prevent post-abortive women (as well as post-murdering criminals) the risk of guilt, depression and suicide. I'm kind of glad I live in a society that treats murder as wrong though.

I have no doubt there are women who become depressed and think of suicide after an abortion because of shamming and social isolation, perhaps for some that is the only reason, but that isn't the rule. It is knowing you took away a new, unique and individual life that is the often the cause for pain. If you don't want to recognize a fetus as a human life, that is your agenda, go ahead, rationalize away. But do not have the audacity to claim that no women make that link and that the only reason for their depression must be socially induced. Some people would feel bad about their actions if they thought they killed someone. Get over yourself already.

Are you defending the act of bullying and harassment of people until they kill themselves?

And they say Christianity is a "religion of love"

    total BS.

I'm genuinely sorry if you or someone close has encountered bullying, and I don't really think anonymous was defending it. However, I don't think that firmly saying abortion is wrong is tantamount to bullying, any more than saying theft is wrong is harassment of thieves. From what I have seen, the pro-life movement is extremely accepting of post-abortive women. Many pro-lifers have-before changing their minds-had abortions, or even worked in abortion clinics, and many of these people are considered heroes to the movement. One great example is Abby Johnson, who was loved from one side of the issue to the other, both as a clinic director and now, as she advocates for women AND babies.

Also, there are many compassionate organizations out there who help women-and men-to deal with their very real grief and regret. These include Rachel's Vineyard, Project Rachel, and Silent No More Awareness. Dana was kind enough to post some more links above(hopeafterabortion.com is Project Rachel).

Although this particular site is secular, I am a Christian, and I believe that being Christ-like means loving post-abortive women, women considering abortions, and even clinic workers. It's just that I also love pre-born babies. I hate abortion. I do not hate women who have had abortions, or the doctors who have performed them, and I do my best to treat them respectfully.

It's useless to argue with trolls. They have an agenda to keep the ongoing killing occurring, no matter the cost to others.

They clearly don't care about the women affected by abortion. Instead, they blame those who try to point out the associated risks. A woman should be informed of all the risks associated with this 'medical procedure'. They want to hide any downsides and convince the world that abortion is all sweetness and lights. Their agenda is failing little by little, so expect attacks on pro-lifers to increase.

I am truly sorry for all the woman who are denied medical information because of the pro-abortion agenda.

They have an agenda to keep the killing occuring? are you dumb? Pro-choice policies lead to FEWER abortions, not more.

You are clearly deluded, anything that doesn't fit your christian fundamentalist narrative is instantly ignored.

People like you are one of the reasons the rest of the world thinks that the average american voter is a complete moron.

"Pro-choice policies lead to fewer abortions, not more."

Unfortunately pro-choice politicians and groups such as NARAL have grossly exaggerated both the number of abortions that happened before Roe vs Wade, and the number of maternal deaths that occurred from said abortions. The late Dr. Bernard Nathanson was co-founder of NARAL and was involved in around 75,000 abortions before he became pro-life and started advocating for the unborn. In "Confessions of an Ex Abortionist" he says "We aroused
enough sympathy to sell our program of permissive abortion by fabricating the number of illegal abortions done annually in the U.S. The actual figure was approaching 100,000 but the figure we gave to the media repeatedly was 1,000,000. Repeating the big lie often
enough convinces the public. The number of women dying from illegal abortions was around 200-250 annually. The figure we constantly fed to the media was 10,000." Based on other things I've seen, I'm guessing his numbers are from the early sixties, not early seventies, as CDC numbers put the number of maternal deaths in 1972 in the upper thirties.

Sorry to be so long-winded. In short, legalization of abortion caused the rate to skyrocket (well over 1 million per year now), and the maternal death rate, which was dropping drastically BEFORE Roe. vs Wade, is more related to the general state of medicine than to the permissiveness of abortion laws.

      Legal abortion=more abortion.

Of course they have an agenda to keep the killing occuring. Abortions are costly and abortion is big bigness!

And if pro-choice policies lead to fewer abortions, why have the number of abortions skyrocketed since Roe v Wade? Do some research before you troll. Obviously, any facts that don't suit your pro-kill agenda are ignored.

Also, the first person that starts with the name calling looses 😉

Anonymous, anything that doesn't fit your pro-killing, extremist, hate-filled agenda gets ignored by you and your cohorts.

Luckily, Americans are waking up little by little to this gross human rights issue. Recent polls show more Americans identify as pro-life than pro-kill.

If it were up to you, I'm sure you'd like the U.S. to end up like some of the former Soviet block countries, where upwards of 70% of pregnancies end in abortion.
