Technical problems

September 1, 2012 /2 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Comments are disappearing.  Blogger shows them as published, not withheld as spam, so the cause of the problem is not immediately obvious.  We will work on resolving this over the weekend. Update: We are switching over to Disqus as our comment posting system.  It may take up to 24 hours for our archived comments to […]

Thalidomide victims continue to be disrespected

September 1, 2012 /2 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

From the Associated Press: The German manufacturer of a notorious drug that caused thousands of babies to be born with shortened arms and legs, or no limbs at all, issued its first ever apology Friday — 50 years after pulling the drug off the market. Gruenenthal Group’s chief executive said the company wanted to apologize […]

Terms of choice

August 30, 2012 /11 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Over the years, there have been many calls (from both sides of the aisle) to do away with the labels “pro-life” and “pro-choice.” The terms are “self-congratulatory,” over- and under-inclusive, devoid of meaning– really, the only point in their favor is that we’ve been using them for 40+ years. Pro-life agnostic Conner Alford, who is […]

Bodily Integrity Revisited

August 22, 2012 /36 Comments/in Bodily Rights, Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

[Guest Blogger Simon takes a particular interest in the philosophical aspects of the abortion debate.  Here he considers the important role of bodily integrity.] When studying the philosophy of abortion, it is often very hard to find new perspectives.  Many arguments run along the usual lines of bodily autonomy, personhood, the moral value of autonomy and […]

Response to article in “The Humanist”

August 20, 2012 /24 Comments/in Biology /by Kelsey Hazzard

An article appears in the September/October 2012 issue of The Humanist, entitled “Are Atheist Pro-Life Groups Promoting Sound Science?” which quotes Secular Pro-Life leaders.  The article was written by Marco Rossi, a man who once worked for Planned Parenthood– so it’s no surprise that the article is unflattering.  He comes right out of the box […]

Bringing the secular perspective to the next generation of pro-life leaders

July 30, 2012 /11 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Last week, Students for Life of America welcomed its third class of Wilberforce Fellows.  The year-long fellowship trains promising pro-life college, law, and medical students in leadership skills.  The goal, of course, is to ensure that the next generation of pro-life leadership is up to the task. But there is also another goal: the promotion […]

Maternal Death at Illinois Planned Parenthood

July 27, 2012 /4 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

From the Chicago Tribune: Tonya Reaves died Friday after she began to hemorrhage, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled an accident. The pregnancy and “cervical dilation and evacuation,” which is a technical term for abortion, that she received at the Planned Parenthood clinic, 18 S. Michigan Ave. were listed […]

Be part of a viral video!

July 24, 2012 /16 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Secular Pro-Life is working on a short video that will tackle the grand-daddy of all pro-abortion arguments: bodily autonomy.  Of course, there has been no shortage of discourse on this topic– most of it dry and unmemorable.  But nobody is going to say that about this video. Why not?  Because our short video is going to […]

Single Issue Voters?

July 17, 2012 /7 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

The Washington Post suggests that it would be controversial for Mitt Romney to pick Condoleezza Rice as a VP candidate due to Rice’s “mildly pro-choice” views.  Rice has previously stated she supports parental notification and is against late-term abortions (as are most Americans).  However, regarding Roe v. Wade, Rice has said, “I have not wanted to see […]
