In 20 States, Walgreens Backs Down from Abortion Drug Distribution

After multiple pro-life protests and a warning letter from state Attorneys General, Walgreens has abandoned plans to sell chemical abortions in twenty states. The company wrote that it intends to comply “with all applicable laws and as a result would not be able to dispense Mifepristone in all locations.”

The twenty states where Walgreens will not sell abortion drugs are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia. However, media outlets are emphasizing four states — Alaska, Iowa, Kansas and Montana — because unborn children already enjoy at least partial legal protections in the other sixteen states.

While this is a positive step forward, there is much work left to do. Walgreens continues to threaten the lives of children in states that have been captured by the abortion industry. Meanwhile, competing chains like CVS and Rite-Aid have not affirmed that they will follow the law in anti-abortion states.
