Radical Pro-Abortion Bill Fails in Senate (Again)

May 13, 2022/0 Comments/in Legislation, laws, & court cases, Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Abortion supporters in Congress are incensed that the Supreme Court may soon allow states to set their own abortion regulations, such as protecting babies in the second and third trimesters. Their solution: H.R. 3755 (the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act”), an abortion industry wish list. Thankfully, it failed in the Senate on a 49-51 vote. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) joined Republicans to defeat the legislation.

Misleadingly described as a measure to “codify Roe v. Wade,” the bill would have gone far beyond Roe. It would have abolished wildly popular, common-sense abortion limits like parental involvement for pregnant minors. It would have eliminated any requirement that an abortionist “perform specific tests or medical procedures in connection with the provision of abortion services,” such as ultrasound or Rh testing. It would have promoted abortion drugs by mail. It would have outlawed gestational limits. In short, it would have been a complete disaster for both babies’ lives and women’s health.

Democrats brought this bill to a vote knowing that they would lose. Indeed, the measure already failed once before. So what’s the point? Vox reports that it’s about creating ammunition for the midterms and turning out their base. But that goes both ways: Republicans can point out the extremism of Democratic Senators who voted yes. The average American wants abortion to be illegal after the first trimester. Dobbs would allow that; H.R. 3755 would not.

Put another way, the Democratic strategy only works if they have enough control of the media to hide what was actually in the bill. They seem to be confident that they do. Every one of us has a responsibility to educate the public and VOTE.
