Pro-one-choice

April 6, 2012/13 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Jezebel recently posted an article entitled “This Is How Much It Costs to Own a Vagina: An Itemized List.”  The main point is that hormonal contraception is just one of many female-specific costs; all those tampons, shaving items, and Midol packs add up.  This is certainly true, although not really news to me as a woman.  (Men, I’d be interested in getting the costs of your prostate exams, deluxe razors, etc. so we can make a comparison.)

And then Jezebel moved on to the “variable costs.”

Okay, class: what’s missing?

Oh yeah– prenatal care and childbirth expenses!  Those are much more expensive than an abortion (unless you qualify for Medicaid or receive services from a pro-life charity).  Why isn’t Jezebel concerned about that as an issue of reproductive maintenance?

I’m sure that it simply never occurred to them.  They are deep in the world of “pro-choice” activism, where choices other than abortion quickly disappear into the abyss.

If I'd read that passage from the article once, I would be the guy in "class" not raising his hand. lol…good critical reading/thinking, Kelsey!

Booring. You really believe the liberals at Jezebel are opposed to universal health care that would cover prenatal care & childbirth? Of course not.

    Why the dishonesty?

Speaking for myself, I don't at all think they're opposed to it. It's just the assumption that pregnancy will lead to abortion that's disturbing. They don't list prenatal care and childbirth as a cost of owning a vagina at all.

But, you know, it's Jezebel. My expectations are not high.

By this reasoning the article also assumes that all women have a urinary tract infection.

Jen R: "It's just the assumption that pregnancy will lead to abortion that's disturbing."

Those were my thoughts exactly. I wasn't making a comment about Jezebel's support for prenatal care coverage in the abstract. If you asked them, they'd probably be in favor. But it just isn't on their radar. It's all about abortion.

If abortion and birth control weren't covered by obamacare, prochoice libs would be first in line screaming to have it struck down. They'll be the first screaming when the fines start coming in, if obamacare is ever enacted. Number of prochoice charities that help pregnant women and born children still stands at a solid 0.

Yes, let's play dumb blonde feminist and pretend you don't know what obamacare entails, including the fines for not buying into it. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates the unconstitutional revenue generating device could produce as much as $36 billion over ten years. The fines are euphemistically dubbed "shared responsibility payments." Employers would be required to deduct the penalties from employees paychecks. You want socialism? You get to pay for it. What are entitled little princesses like yourself going to do then?

sorry libs but some people actually want to fix this country and stop the Obamacare forced government takeover. Obama isn't even a real american citizen, if you believe the liberal MSM media lies then god help you.
