We love this team!

April 22, 2026/in Administrative, SPL Emails, Uncategorized /by Becca Rupp

It’s volunteer appreciation month!

Every April we take time to celebrate our volunteers, and I wanted to send a special message this year to highlight the stellar team that makes us “us.” So in the spirit of gratitude, here are three specific groups that deserve a shout out.

1. SPL Parents

I can’t tell you how many times we’ve reached out to someone for a project and they’ve gotten back to us at 3am…because that’s when they’re up nursing their infant. Most staff meetings at Secular Pro-Life are (warmly) interrupted by kids, and a common soundtrack to our Thank-a-thon calls was the unmistakable chorus of toddlers fighting bedtime. There aren’t words to express what it means to have parents home with their children use their precious brain-space for work at Secular Pro-Life. It’s sometimes unpredictable, but as a mom of 3 very young kids myself, there is a special poetic beauty in the chaos that is “kids taking up space” in our professional world, especially as we’re fighting for the right for those kids to exist.

2. SPL Experts

People often tell me how great Monica is, and you know what, I really like her too. But I NEVER let her take full credit for how great Secular Pro-Life is, and she wouldn’t want to. We delight in reporting that while Monica’s face is on a lot of videos, many takes from SPL represent untold hours of research and knowledge offered from a multidisciplinary team of experts. Secular Pro-Life proudly partners with Harvard-educated lawyers, Maternal Fetal Medicine practitioners, social workers, professors, statisticians, journalists, and others who pound the virtual pavement digging up info when we need it. Whether it’s people uncovering what Propublica got wrong this time, or experts volunteering their time on fundraising and consulting when they could otherwise charge a pretty penny, Secular Pro-Life is a direct reflection of the extraordinary caliber of our expert volunteers.

3. SPL Barkers

Secular Pro-life has an effective strategy for fighting abortion, but we can’t make waves unless we’re getting in front of as many eyes as possible. There are some very special volunteers making that their personal mission. We’ve grown exponentially over the past few years, and that’s thanks to everyone from tablers meeting with folks in person, to people regularly commenting on pro-choice forums citing our work and tagging us on social media. Every like and share matters in a world where the algorithm is influencing what people are fed. People buying our merch or making signs, people suggesting us to podcasts or as speakers for their local pro-life org… these are all irreplaceable resources when it comes to making what we have to say matter.

Not a volunteer yet? Join us!

There are so many other kinds of volunteers at SPL, one email cannot fit them all! We’re so grateful for everyone’s hard work; we really do believe we have the best volunteers in the world. If you’re wondering if there’s a place for you among our ranks, I promise I can find work for you! At the moment we’re especially looking for people who can partner with us for custom merch orders, manage data, and work on special projects. Fill out our survey to get connected today.

If time isn’t a plentiful resource but you can spare a little money, those dollars go toward equipping and mobilizing our team, so give with confidence. We’re all in this together.
