Ask a Pro-Life Atheist: Ash D.
Once a month or so, the Secular Pro-Life blog features a short interview with a pro-life atheist or agnostic. (See the full series of interviews here.) Although Secular Pro-Life is not exclusively for atheists and agnostics, historically they have played a key role in the organization. As they become more prominent in the pro-life movement generally, we’re excited for the opportunity to share their stories. This month, we welcome atheist Ash D.
How did you arrive at the anti-abortion position?
My wife was pregnant with our first child, and because she didn’t want an abortion they let us listen to her heartbeat at 8 weeks. Friends and family called our daughter an “option”, and many people told us directly it was impossible for her to have a heartbeat that early. Once you realize there are some lies, you pick through every argument and realize that there are no really good grounds for abortion outside of emotional appeals and ignorance.
How did you arrive at the atheist position?
Raised secular my whole life.
How do you contribute to the cause of saving lives in the womb?
Advocacy along with donating when I can. And trying to get my governor to change their stance.
What words of wisdom do you have to share?
Life is worth living.
If you appreciate our work and would like to help, one of the most effective ways to do so is to become a monthly donor. You can also give a one time donation here or volunteer with us here.
