azcentral: Therapists are ill-equipped to treat abortion-related trauma

December 11, 2023 in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

azcentral recently published Many women struggle mentally after an abortion. Few counselors know how to help. The whole piece is worth the read, but here are some key excerpts: Melanie opened up about the anxiety and anguish she still felt over the abortion decision. As an atheist woman in her 30s with her whole life in […]

3 reasons you should let people know you’re pro-life

December 8, 2023 in Dialogue strategy, Pro-Life Demographics, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

[Some of this content is available as a printed brochure here.] I have a quick and easy way you can do pro-life work in your day-to-day life. There’s a certain kind of pro-choice person who takes for granted that the pro-choice worldview represents all that is educated, enlightened, secular, democratic, and forward-thinking, and that all […]

WeCount says abortions increased after Dobbs. What does this mean?

November 29, 2023 in Debunking, Legislation, laws, & court cases, Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Introducing the WeCount report. You may have recently seen headlines like these: These articles are based on the October 2023 WeCount report. WeCount describes themselves as a “national abortion reporting effort.” Their report focuses on the number of abortions in the United States in the 12 month period after Dobbs (July 2022 through June 2023), […]

In the fight for life

November 8, 2023 in Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Last night Ohioans voted for Issue 1, which enshrines the right to abortion in their state constitution. This is a major loss for the pro-life side, not least of all because it comes as part of a series of state ballot initiative defeats since Dobbs (after California, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, and Vermont). And there […]

“Where do atheists think human rights come from?”

October 30, 2023 in Philosophy, Religion, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Secular Pro-Life is run by atheists. We bring it up not because we care if people agree with our (lack of) religious views, but because we want people to understand you don’t have to be religious to be pro-life. In fact, we like to emphasize that we do not care what your religious beliefs are; […]

Is Ohio denying miscarriage care?

October 27, 2023 in Debunking, Legislation, laws, & court cases, Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

In late 2022, NPR published Her miscarriage left her bleeding profusely. An Ohio ER sent her home to wait. This is the story of Christina Zielke and her struggle to get appropriate miscarriage treatment while in Ohio. Abortion rights advocates are pointing to this story as evidence of the harm of abortion bans in general […]

“We were offered a termination 4 other times because my baby was like me.”

October 18, 2023 in Ableism, They Can Hear You, Uncategorized, Your Stories /by Monica Snyder

I was moved by this Twitter thread from Nina Tame. I’m reprinting it here for your consideration. There is no room in the medical model for any neutrality around disability. It’s always a devastating tragedy. I’m an adult with Spina Bifida, a birth “defect.” I’m a horror show of a worse case scenario because I’m […]

Are All Pro-Lifers Religious? Podcast Interview with Monica Snyder (Part 1)

October 13, 2023 in Pro-Life Demographics, Speeches, Discussions, Presentations, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Religious. Fundamentalist. Republican. This stereotype is how many people imagine pro-lifers. Monica Snyder, Executive Director of Secular Pro-Life, busts that stereotype in a two-part interview with “Know Why” Podcast. In this episode, Monica talks about Secular Pro-Life and uses her background in biology to discuss the beginning of human life and personhood. Ready for shattered […]

Pro-Abortion Researcher Receives MacArthur Genius Grant

October 9, 2023 in Research, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Dr. Diana Greene Foster (pictured), the lead researcher for the Turnaway Study, has bee selected to receive a 2023 MacArthur Fellowship, along with a no-strings-attached $800,000 “Genius Grant” awarded to people who have “shown extraordinary creativity and dedication in their fields.” The Turnaway Study is a famous (or infamous) body of work comparing and contrasting […]

PRC conference attendees loved SPL’s presentation on Building Bridges!

September 25, 2023 in Administrative, Pro-Life Demographics, Speeches, Discussions, Presentations, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

Last February the good people at Choose Life Marketing reached out to Secular Pro-Life to ask if I would give a keynote presentation at their conference for staff and volunteers of pregnancy resource centers. They specifically asked if I would talk about how pro-life Christians can “build bridges” to more secular demographics. Frankly, I was […]
