Speech: Monica Snyder speaks at the Dobbs #EmpowerWomenPromoteLife rally
(See transcript and source links below)
Hi. My name is Monica Snyder, and I’m an atheist. I know that sounds like the beginning of an AA meeting. I’m not an alcoholic, I’m an atheist. I’m the Executive Director of Secular Pro-Life. We’re a group I like to think of as an atheist club with a pro-life problem. I’m the mother of four, one of whom is with me today. And what else, guys? I’m a woman! Yeah. And so are the other leaders of Secular Pro-Life.
I say this not because it’s shocking, but because it’s kryptonite to the other side. Pro-life. Atheist. Woman. They spend so much time on the patriarchy and the religion thing, and that when we show up, and you can see the dejection. It’s like “Oh! I need a different sign!” Yeah, you do. You need a new sign. You need a new narrative! Because the whole “no uterus, no opinion” thing? It’s always been–I don’t know–garbage?! Do some math! Half of American women are pro-life! The leaders of the largest pro-life organizations? They’re women! National Right to Life, March for Life, Students for Life, Susan B. Anthony List, Secular Pro-Life! …Just kidding, we’re not one of the largest. But we are led by women!
This whole party is because of women. Janet Porter drafted the legislation that stirred things up in Texas. Mississippi rep Becky Currie sponsored the 15-week ban that’s brought us all here today. Of course Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is inside the Supreme Court right now fighting to overturn Roe v. Wade! Do you know why? Because this movement is dominated by uteruses!
So the whole “feminism = abortion” thing? It is a farce! It has always been a farce! The only way they can hang on to it is to try so hard to pretend that we don’t exist. That’s what they do: they try to erase pro-life women. Good luck, right? There’s not enough Photoshop in the world.
But as bad as that is, even worse is their idea that women need abortion to succeed. Not only is that incorrect, it’s the opposite of how it actually goes, because destigmatized, taxpayer-funded abortion impedes our success. It dramatically increases the cultural pressure for us to abort our children if we conceive in anything less than perfect circumstances! There’s a study–the Turnaway study–it found that 96% of women when denied an abortion 5 years later–happy they didn’t get one! Because, as usual, the empirical data doesn’t support their side.
Where are we right now? We’re in front of the Supreme Court 48 years, 10 months, 9 days after Roe v. Wade and we are closer than ever to undoing this atrocity. Do you know why? Because all the glitz marketing and red herrings about the patriarchy cannot change the reality that abortion. kills. children. And we won’t stop until all children are protected. Thank you.
