Recap: A Secular Case Against Abortion Presentation at Princeton

May 4, 2026/in SPL Emails, Uncategorized /by Michelle Buenrostro

Last month, Princeton Pro-Life invited me to deliver SPL’s presentation “The Secular Case Against Abortion.” This presentation covers biology, personhood, and bodily rights arguments. We updated this presentation to include later abortion, abortion coercion, and miscarriage to examine the consequences of a culture that embraces abortion. I also walked the audience through my thought process during my own personal pro-choice to pro-life conversion.

Fun fact: I love talking about biology!

After my presentation, we had about 20 minutes for a Q&A. I received thoughtful questions from the audience, many of which were pro-life, but I noticed that some listeners were either pro-choice or neutral on the issue.

When I came down from the stage, some people thanked me and expressed that they felt better equipped to debate abortion. One young man talked to me about his relative’s journey with prenatal diagnosis and the pressure to abort, which coincides with the stories that we unfortunately often hear.

After the talk, I sat down and had dinner with the campus pro-life group. They shared with me how they support young mothers in the area. In solidarity, I also shared with them my efforts to establish a student-parent resource center at my college. As a student parent, I know that one of our greatest advocates are pro-life campus groups. It’s one of the many reasons why I am proud to be pro-life. I was pleased to learn about how they maintain a pro-life presence at an Ivy League university despite the stigma. They were young, but they had courage.

Some feedback for the presentation that I received:

  • “The thought experiments were helpful as someone who grew up in a pro-choice culture.”
  • “I appreciated how clearly the arguments were laid out. It was very easy to follow.”
  • “It was thoughtful and well-reasoned. It included a lot of data.”
  • “I know I learned a lot and now feel more confident in giving a secular argument against abortion.”

You make this possible.

Travel expenses for this trip equaled $692. If you’re able to pitch in, donate to help make more talks like this possible so we can equip young people with the language and courage to fight for a pro-life culture.

For life,

Michelle Buenrostro
