Ask an Agnostic - Michael Scott

Ask a Pro-Life Agnostic: Michael Scott

May 8, 2026/in Religion, Uncategorized, Your Stories /by Kelsey Hazzard

Once a month or so, the Secular Pro-Life blog features a short interview with a pro-life atheist or agnostic. (See the full series of interviews.) Although Secular Pro-Life is not exclusively for atheists and agnostics, historically, they have played a key role in the organization. As non-religious pro-lifers become more prominent in the pro-life movement, we’re excited for the opportunity to share their stories.

This month, we welcome pro-life agnostic Michael Scott.

Ask an Agnostic - Michael Scott

How did you arrive at the anti-abortion position?

I switched from pro-choice because I was challenged by a pro-lifer to do my own research. I researched everything from the biology involved, to the underlying legal rights involved. I read rulings on the issue.

It took time, but I concluded that the facts involved did not support the pro-choice position. It isn’t just her body. We’re all created with rights. The government’s primary mandate is the protection of our rights.

The inescapable conclusion is that non-therapeutic abortion violates her child’s rights, and the law shouldn’t be permissive of it.

How did you arrive at the agnostic position?

The more I learned about science and how to rationally think, the more I started looking and judging things based on evidence, and when it comes to God existing, there is none.

I’m agnostic because I don’t preclude the possibility that a God exists, but there isn’t any evidence one does.

How do you contribute to the cause of saving lives in the womb?

I’ve been contributing publicly and privately by engaging with pro-choice people and their views. This has led to lives being saved, I know. I’ve had mothers message me privately and tell me that they were undecided but reading a logically, factually laid out argument helped them decide against abortion.

What words of wisdom do you have to share?

Always do you best to be patient, and know that even if the person you’re conversing with will never change their mind, others reading/hearing the conversation silently might.

If you are interested in sharing your perspective as a pro-life atheist or agnostic, please complete this survey.

If you appreciate our work and would like to help, one of the most effective ways to do so is to become a monthly donor. You can also give a one time donation here or volunteer with us here.
