Recap: ‘Justice For The Five’ Anniversary Events

One week ago today, March 25th, marked the three-year anniversary of when Secular Pro-Life board member and PAAU Founder Terrisa Bukovinac, along with Lauren Handy, recovered the remains of 115 abortion victims in Washington DC.

To commemorate this anniversary and to demand justice for these children Secular Pro-Life participated in a Week of Action in the nation’s capitol, hosted by PAAU.

On March 24th activists held an all-night vigil outside the medical examiner’s office. During the set-up, I was there to be in solidarity and help hand out flyers. Lots of passersby wanted to know what the encampment was all about which led to several productive conversations about the reality of later abortion. Most people, even those who generally support abortion, reject the violence of later abortion. When confronted with the reality of these procedures right in their own backyard, it was impossible to deny the debunked pro-choice claim that they don’t happen or that they only happen for reasons of medical necessity.

The next morning we participated in a sunrise memorial service to honor the lives of these babies. It was an emotionally heavy morning but it also reminded me of the importance of the work we are doing. Every life taken by abortion is a unique human being and their lives were meaningful no matter how short.

Then we traveled to the Department of Justice where I spoke at a press conference along with SBA Pro-Life America and PAAU to demand action on behalf of the children. Now that the DOJ is no longer dedicating its resources to targeting pro-lifers, it is time for them to open an investigation into these potential violations of federal laws.

While there, I got to build on relationships with both traditional and nontraditional pro-lifers. As I am getting back into pro-life activism after my brief hiatus, it was so energizing to connect with others passionate about the pro-life cause.

Thank you for helping make this event possible.

Your donations have equaled 57% of our expenses ($377.32), which paid for food, gas, printing materials, and one night’s lodging. The remaining 43% ($290) is still needed to cover two more nights lodging. If you are able to help cover these types of costs, please donate here:
