Help us build momentum for life!

October 12, 2012/5 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Last week’s video release was a great success! The moving pro-life story of Krista and Tatiana Hogan has been viewed thousands of times on YouTube and featured in major pro-life media outlets.

American Atheists convention
We need your help to keep the momentum going. Later this month, our outreach coordinator will participate in an abortion debate at the Texas Freethought Convention.  In January, we will reach out to the next generation of pro-life leaders at the Students for Life of America conference, for our fourth consecutive year. And on top of all of that, we continue to invest in life-saving advertising for AbortionSafety.com.

Unlike many traditional pro-life groups, we do not reach out to church networks for funding. Our ability to promote the culture of life relies entirely on financial support from individuals like yourself. So if you appreciate what Secular Pro-Life is doing and want to see more, please consider making a much-needed donation.

Every dollar helps. We thank you for your generosity.

I'm concerned that your organization is not making sufficient attempts to reach the atheist communities of color. Why is it that I only see white atheists at SPL?

David, are you talking about the picture? Only the two people sitting down are members; the rest are just conference attendees who wanted to talk to us.

We do have people of all ethnicities on our facebook page. That said, I agree that people of color are, while not UNrepresented, still UNDERrepresented. Unfortunately this is a problem that plagues many secular groups. Whites are much less likely to embrace religion as a statistical matter, at least in the United States. I don't think that the underrepresentation issue will be fully resolved until there is a change in the larger demographics. But in any event, SPL will continue to strive to ensure that people of color are welcomed, and if anyone has suggestions for improvement on that front I'd love to hear them.

What exactly will you do with donations?

Also, how did SPL originate? Let me be honest with you. My suspicion is that SPL is really a Roman Catholic organization. I would not want my money going to a child molestation cult. There was an incident in South America in which a relatively very young girl was impregnated through rape. After she obtained an abortion, the Catholic Church excommunicated her but not the rapist. That is completely outrageous and completely contrary to right-to-life beliefs.

We want to use the money to 1) purchase a booth at the Students for Life of America conference, 2) buy a plane ticket for the Texas Freethought Convention, and 3) purchase online advertising for our abortion malpractice database.

SPL is not a Roman Catholic organization and certainly does not support child molestation or rape. SPL began in 2009 with a group of college students.

This is true, if anything, SPL is a Methodist/Protestant organization with Catholic allies. The pope has no final say in what happens at SPL.

As the national conversation on abortion intensifies, it’s more important than ever that we demonstrate that anyone can–and everyone should–oppose abortion. Thanks to you, we are working to change minds, transform our culture, and protect our prenatal children. Every donation supports our ability to provide nonsectarian, nonpartisan arguments against abortion. Please donate today.
