We Asked, You Answered: If you are part of the pro-life community, what’s it like to be LGBTQ in those spaces?
Secular Pro-Life has a focus on amplifying the voices of non-traditional pro-lifers. For the LGBTQ community, SPL offers a survey to gather their thoughts and experiences as a pro-lifer. We compiled answers for today’s question:
If you are part of the pro-life community, what’s it like to be LGBTQ in those spaces?
The answers greatly varied: some feel welcome, some challenge the stereotypes they face, and others feel unwelcome entirely:
Miles B.: “Without these fringe groups of the pro-life movement, I would probably not be a pro-life activist.”

A.S.: “…[E]ven if [SPL and Rehumanize] are smaller I have safe spaces to go and discuss things, and to learn about related news and powerful apologetics. Unfortunately, most of these organizations are in the States and it’s even harder to find pro-life people in Canada!”
Anna LeFevre: “…[America has] the chance to have leftist/liberal pro-life circles. Virtually non-existent in Europe.”
WB: “I have no problem contacting organizations and helping to volunteer at resource centers.”
Hannah W.: “I would love to have more opportunities to network with like-minded people.”
Elise Ketch: “I generally feel welcomed but not accepted…”
Anonymous: “…[T]here is little overlap, but I don’t feel excluded as much.”
Eleanor L.: “I have the general uncomfortable closeted feeling when interacting with traditionally pro-life people who assume that I am straight and conservative.”
Barbara: “Difficult, but at the same time, amazing.”
Abigail Scott: “…[C]onservatives spout these political positions seemingly without a thought for how I or any other queer person might feel about them, and pro-lifers are sometimes the worst offenders.”
