Rehumanize Conference Recap

Over Halloween weekend, I had the great pleasure of representing Secular Pro-Life at the annual Rehumanize Conference. We kicked off the event on the night of Friday, October 31, with a costume party around the theme “Natural Death to All Humans.”
Saturday was a whirlwind of back-to-back presentations, on topics ranging from effective persuasion tactics to disability rights to addressing racism in the pro-life movement. Recordings of all sessions are available through the Rehumanize website. My own lecture, on how advocacy groups can get involved in amicus briefs, was extremely well-received and I have already been asked to repeat it for other audiences; stay tuned.
We reconvened after dinner for a celebration of artistic expression: the Create | Encounter release party! The many songs, collages, paintings, and poems on consistent life ethic themes brought inspiration and joy to our work. I am always impressed by how creative our movement is. (Here’s my submission if you’re interested.) You can access all of those pieces in the 2025 issue of Create | Encounter magazine.
The highlight of the evening was a surprise from Aimee Murphy, who is the founder of Rehumanize International (and a dear friend). Aimee announced that she is releasing two children’s books about embryo adoption! “Marvelous You” is for adoptees, and the companion book “Family for a Snowflake” is for other loved ones. They are illustrated by the incomparable Maria Oswalt. Aimee’s infant son — conceived in 2017 but only born earlier this year — was in attendance, and I can confirm that he is absolutely adorable.
Sunday featured a wide-ranging open forum. Lauren Handy’s reflections on her time in prison were especially moving.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, whether in person or virtually. We will see you again next year!
