SPL Submits Amicus Brief to Georgia Supreme Court

December 11, 2024/in Bodily Rights, Legislation, laws, & court cases, Research, Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Georgia’s heartbeat law is under attack, and the case has been making its way through the courts. A pro-abortion activist judge briefly stripped Georgia babies of the right to life, but that deadly decision was stayed while the Supreme Court of Georgia takes up the appeal.

Yesterday, Secular Pro-Life submitted an amicus brief in the case. The brief, authored by Professor Matthew Cavedon and joined by Rainbow Pro-Life Alliance, argues that abortion legislation can coexist with a robust right to privacy. It lays out a path for the Supreme Court of Georgia to uphold the heartbeat law, without impacting nonviolent exercises of autonomy such as same-sex relationships.

In layman’s terms, you might sum it up with the old saying that your right to swing your fist ends where another person’s face begins. Curious about the legal precedent for that common-sense wisdom? Read the brief below!
