Abortion rights and moral wrongs: The defeat of Virginia’s Repeal Act proves that advocates of the procedure are going too far
Who knew that abortion legislation could be a uniting force? The impossible happened this week, as reasonable Americans of all stripes — including many who describe themselves as pro-choice — recoiled in horror at an extreme Virginia bill that would have essentially eliminated legal limits on late-term abortions.
The bill, sponsored by Delegate Kathy Tran and known as the Repeal Act, swiftly died in committee. Abortion lobbyists hope that you will just as swiftly forget that their overreach ever happened.
Don’t. The episode offers two lasting lessons that can guide our thinking and prevent the enactment of outrageous abortion laws in other states.
