Major Announcement!

October 1, 2012/13 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

On October 20, Secular Pro-Life outreach coordinator Kristine Kruszelnicki will participate in an abortion debate with pro-choicer Matt Dillahunty of The Atheist Experience.

Both Kruszelnicki and Dillahunty are atheist ex-Christians.  Their debate will take place at the Texas Freethought Convention in Austin, TX.  Tickets to the convention are still available.

We are very excited for this opportunity to engage the Texas atheist community in an ethical and scientific debate of abortion, free of stereotyping and religious assumptions.  Our goal is to provoke serious thought about an issue which has been too often dismissed as a “religious issue,” and to connect existing pro-life atheists to a growing network.

Will the event be televised? Or will it be recorded and posted on YouTube? I'd like to see it, but there is no way I can get down to Texas.

I would also like to see it, if it will be recorded. I live in California, but on the 20th I'll be flying to Oklahoma to speak and mentor at three pro-life seminars and outreaches.

I already know whats going to happen matt will concede that the unborn is a human/person and argue that a woman's autonomy trumps the life of the unborn and this is where. This is where "reductio ad absurd um" can come to play to refute Matt's outdated argument of bodily rights

Bobby, I'll try and get your message to Matt and let him know that he doesn't need to show up since you've already delivered the rhetorical death blow.

"Newsflash Dillahunty, bodily rights are outdated. Debate over! "

He might be like me and be unaware of this change. But hopefully his opponent will be able to inform us where we need to go to register our blood type so we can efficiently give up our bodily fluids and organs when the government deems it necessary.

Kristine, see the comments sections of the recent pro-rape-exception posts. As I did, you should emphasize that the concept of a right to bodily autonomy that allows someone to kill an unborn baby is nothing more than a hallucination. No legal or moral justification exists for such a right.

We will record the debate via video. Also, we will allow people to show the debate live if they want from their mobile devices, AND if the debators allow for it AND as long as they don't show the crowd. (for privacy purposes).

Seriously, are you being intentionally dense? This post is the second or third time you've referred to that discussion like you settled it. People on your own 'side' acknowledge that the discussion was far from decided. Heck, many of them think you got wrecked.

Alright now that I'm done venting, this debate should be interesting. I too hope it becomes available on youtube or another video site.

You may want to inform Kristine about the argument of body sovereignty. You were entirely correct about what Matt did, but she kept answering that he was assuming the fetus was not human, while Matt conceded from beginning to end (at least 5 times) it may as well be a human being, that his position was the same either way. It flew right over her head. It made for a non-debate, unfortunately.
