Upcoming event in Iowa
A coalition of Iowa pro-life organizations has announced a town hall meeting on the subject of telemed abortions. It will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 5:30pm at the Downtown Church, 323 E Locust St. in Des Moines, Iowa. Invited speakers include a range of pro-life leaders, legislators, and political candidates.
Earlier that same day, the Iowa Board of Medicine will debate possible new guidelines on telemedicine, including telemed abortion.
Unfortunately, I don’t live anywhere near Iowa and will be unable to attend. If any SecularProLife.org members plan to go, we’d love to get your report.
Suppose anyone at the "pro-life" event will discuss how to ensure every woman who needs an abortion can get one-to-one access to a pro-choice physician?
…oh, that would be to assume they'd care about the women who have to have telemed abortions.
And how do you suggest we get more abortionists? Have some sort of draft like we used to do for the army?
If a woman truly "needs" an abortion (or else she will die), that's one thing. I'd rather one person die than 2. If she *wants* an abortion, that's another thing entirely. You don't get to kill your child for socioeconomic reasons.
A woman never needs an abortion to save her life. This is because killing a child, unborn or not, is not the cure for any known disease or condition (except may that of having no money). On the other hand, it is always perfectly legitimate to give necessary medical care to someone (pregnant or not) and while all due regard should be given to the life of the unborn sometimes healing the woman will sadly have the side effect and negative consequence of the unborn human dying (not being killed). This is sad, but is not abortion.
I guess that's more of a semantics thing than anything.
