Thoughts about birthdays

March 14, 2014 /29 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

On occasion, pro-choicers will argue that the government’s use of birthdays as a starting point to measure age is evidence that life begins at birth rather than at conception. In fairness, these are usually not pro-choicers who are deeply involved in the debate. Intellectually honest pro-choicers realize that the argument from birthdays is extremely weak, […]

Secular Pro-Life’s Christian Outreach

March 13, 2014 /30 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Ha! Made you look at the headline! Now read the whole article, because it’s a little more complicated. Secular Pro-Life has always been open to people of any faith or no faith. Still, SPL is often associated with, well, secularism. Our leadership is comprised of non-theists, and we’re always going on about that “over six […]

GOAL: 24,000 diapers for charity by the end of March

March 12, 2014 /2 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

My friend Jennie is a wonderful pro-life young woman. I’ve known her for years and she has a big heart. Her 24th birthday is today, and true to form, she’s thinking about those less fortunate. She wants to collect 24,000 diapers for charity by the end of the month. She’s been soliciting friends to help […]

“Pro-lifers should support sex ed… but pro-lifers aren’t welcome in our sex ed club!”

March 11, 2014 /36 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

[Today’s guest post is by Rebecca Stapleford.] As a pro-life activist who supports comprehensive sex education, reliable contraception, and pro-life legislation to reduce the number of abortions performed, I was deeply disheartened to learn that my university’s sex education club, which is officially connected to my university’s student health center, is officially pro-choice.  This revelation […]

What NOT to say if you’re a pro-life politician

March 7, 2014 /40 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

[Today’s guest post by Rachel Enders is part of our paid blogging program. Get more thoughts from Rachel at her Pro-Life For All tumblr. She also blogs about sexual health at Birds, Bees, and Other Things, which is not remotely safe for work.] The past year or so has been very exciting for pro-life activists. In Texas, […]

“Now that I’m safe, I’m pro-choice.”

March 5, 2014 /146 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Meet Joe, the star of today’s hypothetical. Joe hates wearing seat belts. He does wear them, but only because it’s required by law in his state and he’s gotten a few too many citations. Joe gets into a serious car accident, but survives. Doctors tell him that without the seat belt, he almost certainly would […]

What do Americans think about abortion?

March 4, 2014 /6 Comments/in Research, Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

[Today’s guest post by Nathaniel Givens originally appeared on his personal blog, Difficult Run.] Will Saletan, the national correspondent at Slate, is a smart and independent thinker on the abortion issue. He even wrote a controversial but highly regarded book called Bearing Right: How Conservatives Won the Abortion War. Peter Beinart, editor of The New […]

What Wendy Davis’ political doublespeak means for children like my son

March 3, 2014 /30 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

[Today’s guest post by JoAnna Wahlund is part of our paid blogging program.] Last June, Texas state senator Wendy Davis became infamous due to her ultimately unsuccessful attempt to filibuster proposed abortion laws that implemented rigorous safety regulations on abortion facilities and also banned abortion after 20 weeks gestation (with exceptions for the life of […]

How do mental health professionals deal with abortion?

February 28, 2014 /11 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

[Today’s guest post by Chris Rostenberg is part of our paid blogging program.] Many mental health providers in Westchester County, New York, censor speech about abortion in day programs, outpatient or inpatient therapy, group therapy, one-on-one therapy, social clubs and half-way houses. I have a mental illness. I also believe strongly that abortion is a […]
