Girls’ self-esteem is a pro-life issue
I was deeply disturbed by a Huffington Post article I read last night:
“People say I’m ugly. So … tell me — am I?”
A young girl stares earnestly, and perhaps a bit awkwardly, into the camera asking the world wide web of YouTube users to comment on her appearance. With 35,000 views and nearly 1,200 comments, her video is just one small piece in what seems to be a growing trend of teen and “tween” (between the ages of 11 and 13) girls taking to the Internet to broadcast concerns about their looks — and asking strangers to weigh in on these insecurities.
The Huffington Post suggests that the solution is to petition YouTube to take these videos down. That might suppress the specific trend, but it won’t address the underlying problem of girls’ insecurity. We need to have a conversation with middle-school girls about their value as unique human beings, along the lines of the It Gets Better project for LGBT kids.
I consider this a pro-life issue. Every human being has inherent dignity; your worth as a person shouldn’t depend on your outward appearance! In addition, this is a pro-life issue because studies show that girls who have low self-esteem are at greater risk for unplanned pregnancies. We need to address self-esteem issues early, before students engage in destructive behaviors like unprotected sexual intercourse.
I’ve recorded a response video and encourage other pro-lifers (especially women) to do the same. Let’s get out there and make a difference!

It's a bit ironic that the most fervently pro-life advocates are responsible for contributing to a rise in unplanned pregnancies and abortions.
You can thank radical feminism for this: encouraging girls to objectify themselves by promoting the slut culture and then laying blame for the results elsewhere. Feminists shriek out of one side of their mouths that girls can do/be anything while shrieking out the other side of their mouths that women are perpetual victims. Small wonder the results are disaster. The sex-obssesed left can't own the results of their own twisted ideology, so they blame the grown ups. Typical.
PREACH IT BROTHER! Those women try to justify thier immoral behaviors by killing babies and when they finally get what's coming to them (rape) they act like a victim and refuse to take any responsibility for what happened.
Rape is NEVER acceptable, and I won't allow you to imply that MPQ is pro-rape. We're talking about the objectification of women generally. Objectification of women is harmful both to women and to society at large. I agree that some responsibility for that objectification lies with Hollywood culture, which is generally left-leaning and supportive of "choice."
This is excellent, Kelsey! Can I repost this on AbolishAbortion.com?
Of course, Amanda, go right ahead!
Thank you to the bloggers here for defending me. I am most certainly not pro-rape, considering I'm a woman. I despise victim feminism, which tries to paint female victims of crime as more 'victimy' than other victims of equally violent crimes simply because we're women. I also loathe that feminists will never own the inevitable results of their own ideology. Read my blog for more on how women like me are rejecting radical feminist, most antiwoman doctrine ever.
