Ask a Pro-Life Atheist: Alan Tyson
Once a month or so, the Secular Pro-Life blog features a short interview with a pro-life atheist or agnostic. (See the full series of interviews.) Although Secular Pro-Life is not exclusively for atheists and agnostics, historically, they have played a key role in the organization. As non-religious pro-lifers become more prominent in the pro-life movement, we’re excited for the opportunity to share their stories.
This month, we welcome pro-life agnostic atheist Alan Tyson.

How did you arrive at the anti-abortion position?
I have a deep respect for all human rights from conception to death and believe that every single human being has equal worth whatever their age, ethnicity, gender or nationality.
How did you arrive at the atheist position?
I was born an agnostic atheist. There is no evidence for the existence of deities but I can’t for sure know that they don’t exist.
How do you contribute to the cause of saving lives in the womb?
I spread the word through various UK based secular charities as well as attend the annual March for Life UK. I have also written to my local MP in regards to their position on abortion in relation to the recent proposed bill to decriminalise it after 24 weeks.
What words of wisdom do you have to share?
If you refuse to learn from your mistakes, you’re either a fool or a very forgetful person.
