Ask a Pro-Life Atheist: Anonymous
Once a month or so, the Secular Pro-Life blog features a short interview with a pro-life atheist or agnostic. (See the full series of interviews.) Although Secular Pro-Life is not exclusively for atheists and agnostics, historically, they have played a key role in the organization. As non-religious pro-lifers become more prominent in the pro-life movement, we’re excited for the opportunity to share their stories.
This month, we welcome an anonymous pro-life atheist.

How did you arrive at the anti-abortion position?
I studied the issues of abortion in my university philosophy classes where we debated and listened to presentations. Although many pro-choice and pro-abortion arguments were intriguing, they ultimately always fell short in my eyes of being truly air-tight in terms of logic. The premeditated and intentional killing of innocent human life is wrong. If we can’t accept that as a species, I fear we won’t get far.
How did you arrive at the atheist position?
I spent 30 years devoutly religious but finally deconstructed after applying the critical thinking I learned to my own beliefs.
How do you contribute to the cause of saving lives in the womb?
I have given presentations as well as monetary donations.
What words of wisdom do you have to share?
Abortion is not necessary. Early birth may be necessary, but killing the fetus first is not. Give it the chance to live.
Humans must learn to step outside their own desires and fears and place the good of others first.
