Herb’s story: Sent to prison for defending life
(Editor’s note: This message was initially shared on November 26, 2025.)
Hey All –
This morning, Secular Pro-Life released a new video on our channels that’s especially personal to me, and I wanted to share it with you.
In it, for the first time I tell my story of being arrested and sent to prison for nonviolent direct action at Cesare Santangelo’s late-term abortion clinic.
If I didn’t receive a pardon earlier this year, I would still be locked up right now. But instead, I’m free and back in my community working to build a culture where every life is respected and protected.
“Today was supposed to be my release date from federal prison…”
I’m not posting this story for sympathy or praise. I’m sharing it because I think if we truly believe abortion is the taking of an innocent human life, then we have to be willing to do something about it. My hope is that this video encourages others to take meaningful action in whatever form that looks like for them.
I’d be grateful if you watched and shared it. I’d be more grateful if you got involved to defend life in your community.
And if you want to support my work and help us reach and mobilize more people, you can do so here:
Finally, a bonus just for our blog readers:
Photos of me at Christmas time 2023 at the Alexandria County Jail and 2024 at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center.

Happy Holidays,
Herb Geraghty
