Recap: Building Bridges in Washington D.C.

July 14, 2025/in Dialogue strategy, Speeches, Discussions, Presentations, Uncategorized /by Herb Geraghty

Two weeks ago, Secular Pro-Life hosted our first ever Building Bridges Intensive: a day-long in-person training event designed to give pro-lifers the skills and confidence they need to talk about abortion in a winsome way.

It was a huge success! Here is some feedback from our attendees:

Very articulate presentation!

[I appreciated] the vast knowledge, diligence, and passion of Monica and Herb.

It was very positive and had good energy. I especially liked Monica’s discussion of how to handle the bodily autonomy issue.

I enjoyed the practical examples of how to engage effectively with the other side. Great handouts for the roleplays.

In addition to these, multiple attendees praised the unique roleplay opportunities we offered and ample time for Q&A.

Typically, when I speak at an event, I prepare my remarks with my audience in mind – knowing if an audience will be mostly liberal or conservative, secular or Christian, etc helps me shape my message into the most persuasive one possible. This event was a little different because our audience was so ideologically diverse; we had all types of pro-life people in attendance.

For Monica and me, it was so gratifying to give a space to non-traditional pro-lifers to connect, and to get to train more traditional pro-lifers in the skills needed to reach demographics different from themselves.

This event was the first of its kind for SPL — but it won’t be the last.

Now that we have put in the work to develop this content into a full-day training, we want to be able to give it to as many people as possible.

If you are part of a pro-life group and are interested in hosting an event like this in your area, reach out to me for more details.

Our Building Bridges Intensive is ideal for:

  • State- or city-specific Right to Life groups
  • Conference organizers interested in creating full-day or multi-day learning tracks
  • Networks of PRCs training side-by-side
  • Student groups planning regional collaborative events

We are happy to discuss opportunities to make this training available to all types of organizations. Feel free to send me an email (herb@secularprolife.org).

Or if you know of a local organization or conference where you think we might be a good fit, we would love for you to reach out to them to pitch us!

I really believe that Monica and I have developed something special here that can help our fellow pro-lifers to be the best advocates possible – especially those who find themselves in a culture where pro-choice is seen as the default.

Finally, these events are only possible with the help of our donors. If you read my last email you know that flight delays and cancellations caused us to incur additional expenses that we didn’t budget for. Any amount you can give will ensure that we continue to be able to train activists to advance effective arguments against abortion and build diverse pro-life coalitions.
