Pro-Life Demands for the Trump-Vance Administration

January 20, 2025/in Legislation, laws, & court cases, Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Today, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. Trump’s desire to “leave abortion to the states” is a morally hollow position of convenience, a successor to the “personally pro-life, politically pro-choice” cop-out of the 1990s and early 2000s. Trump inherits a federal government that has its thumb on the scale to favor the abortion industry, fatally undermining state-level efforts. If states are going to fulfill Dobbs‘ promise to protect the right to life at all ages, there must be change in Washington, D.C.

Stop subsidizing Big Abortion. The Biden administration opened up countless federal funding streams: through the Department of Defense, the Veterans Administration, international family planning programs, and taxpayer-funded gifts to Planned Parenthood. All must be closed. The Hyde Amendment, which has saved over two and a half million lives by preventing use of federal taxpayer funds for abortion in the Medicaid program, should be made permanent (rather than subject to annual renewal).

Prioritize life-affirming support instead. Pregnant families in crisis deserve real support, not abortion. Bolstering housing, transportation, childcare, substance abuse recovery, and the social safety net in general is both life-saving and good politics.

Stop discriminating against pro-life Americans. Peaceful protest is at the heart of American democracy. Discontinue FACE Act prosecutions and pardon pro-life political prisoners. Restore conscience protections for pro-life healthcare workers. And repeal EEOC regulations that force pro-life employers to treat abortion as if it were a neutral choice, not killing a human being.

Enforce existing federal abortion limits. What good does the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act do if, when a baby’s body is recovered from an abortion facility with the hallmark partial-birth injury at the base of her neck, officials simply store her body at the morgue for years and stall any investigation? That’s what happened to Harriet, one of the D.C. Five. The Department of Justice must prosecute abortionists who violate federal law. That includes those who illegally traffic abortion drugs into pro-life states.

No matter who is in the Oval Office, pro-life Americans must put pressure on our elected officials. Babies do not get a vote. They are counting on us to be their fearless, tireless advocates!
