Harder, better, faster, stronger

December 14, 2024/in Administrative, Uncategorized /by Monica Snyder

(I’m not talking about Daft Punk. I’m talking about SPL.)

SPL has a multi-part mission including advancing secular arguments against abortion, welcoming non-traditional pro-lifers, and coalition building. 2024 has been fabulous for us in all of these regards.

But for now I wanted to highlight an additional 2024 victory: because I have a small but highly efficient staff and devoted, talented volunteers, we were able to create a greater amount of in-depth, carefully cited debunking content when it counted.

This expanded ability resulted in more than doubling SPL’s monthly views during election season. From January to September SPL got about 1.1 million views per month, but in October and November we skyrocketed to 2.4 million views per month!

We were able to hand SPL supporters the arguments they needed right when they needed them, and in turn they were able to have more useful and persuasive conversations with friends and family. Some reached out personally to let us know they had changed minds—and votes.

Like I said: victory.

Lots of eyebrow raising here.

(See these videos and more in our Debunking Playlist.)

Creating good debunking content is tricky. We want SPL videos to be highly accurate, and we need to produce them as fast as possible. Debunking content is most relevant in the hours after a story breaks. It may still resonate within a few days, but much beyond that and it won’t likely get play.

Compared to years past, we at SPL were able to debunk a lot more this election season because we had the funds. Dollars go to hiring staff who help either directly (fact checking, video editing, content scheduling) or indirectly (training and coordinating SPL’s eclectic volunteer base). Our volunteers absorb countless necessary tasks, freeing staff to quickly turnaround complex debunking content. We are so very grateful.

It’s your donations that allow us to hire the staff and train the volunteers who make this possible. In 2024, we’re projected to have received over 1,000 donations totaling $77,000. And, very impressive, over 96% of our donations were $100 or less. The average donation amount was $60. In other words, SPL’s work exists not because of mega donors, but because of the dedication and financial support of everyday people who share our vision. We’re proud of our grassroots era.

Your support has been well worth it. Election season hit, we devoted much of our time to correcting false narratives, and we saw our monthly view count soar. The peak was 3.2 million views in November. You freed the SPL team to push back—hard—on some absurd abortion propaganda.

The work continues. For 2024 we’re projected to have expenses totaling about $100,000. As the end of the year approaches, we’re looking for SPL champions to help close our $23,000 budget gap. Would you consider a year-end gift to help us enter 2025 ready to fight?

Thank you for empowering us to speak up.

If you appreciate our work and would like to help, one of the most effective ways to do so is to become a monthly donor. You can also give a one time donation here or volunteer with us here.
