Secular Pro-Life Statement on the Conviction of Pro-Life Activists

August 30, 2023/in Legislation, laws, & court cases, Uncategorized /by Kelsey Hazzard

Secular Pro-Life is heartbroken that peaceful pro-life advocates, including pro-life atheist Herb Geraghty, have been convicted under the FACE Act. The D.C. jury’s guilty verdict, announced yesterday afternoon, exposes the defendants to up to eleven years in federal prison.

The judge excluded key evidence from the trial. The jury’s verdict was not fully informed. Secular Pro-Life hopes that the defendants will bring a successful appeal. But whatever happens next, we stand in solidarity with our dear friends. Their non-violent civil disobedience was a tremendous act of courage.

We also, as ever, stand in solidarity with the victims of abortion. Herb and his co-defendants have brought great injustices to light. In particular, we remember the victims of Washington Surgi-Center, including those whose lives are viciously cut short just weeks before they could have taken their first breaths.
