Saving lives from suicide
At Secular Pro-Life, our primary goal is to unite people of every faith and no faith in the fight against abortion. Every year in the United States, over one million unborn children’s lives are violently snuffed out in the name of “choice.”
But in focusing on this tragedy, we do not mean to minimize other serious threats to human life. And sadly, sometimes the greatest threat is within a person’s own mind. The odds are good that you know someone who has struggled with depression. In my own family, two cousins have been lost to suicide.
The Overnight Walk is a fundraiser benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It will take place in Washington, D.C. on June 1-2, less than two weeks away.
Every January, hundreds of thousands of pro-life Americans congregate in our nation’s capitol to raise awareness at the March for Life. Imagine harnessing those numbers to participate in, or donate to, the Overnight Walk!
I encourage all readers of this blog– whether you’re a fervent pro-lifer, a casual observer, or our loyal opposition– to give to this important cause. And while you’re at it, take a moment to learn more about the risk factors and warning signs for suicide.
A great cause and an urgent need. Suicide should be of great concern to all who are pro-life.
Also, the suicide rate is unusually high among those who have abortions.
