How Pro-Life Is Your State?
Americans United for Life has released its annual “Life List,” ranking the fifty U.S. states on their legal protections for unborn children.
Leading the way is Arkansas, which prohibits abortion except to save the life of the mother. Approximately forty pregnancy resource centers serve Arkansas families. The right to life is enshrined in the state constitution; a pro-abortion ballot initiative to eliminate that right before 18 weeks gestation is underway but has not accumulated sufficient signatures. According to Pew Research Center, 60% of Arkansas adults say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases.
Rounding out the top ten pro-life states are Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Indiana, Arizona, Idaho, Missouri, South Dakota, and Alabama. The ten worst states to be a fetus? That would be Vermont, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, New York, New Mexico, Massachusetts, California, and Illinois.
