Can you be in D.C. on August 9th?
Last October, Herb Geraghty (pictured) was charged with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The FACE Act is a federal law that criminalizes nonviolent civil disobedience at abortion centers. The FACE Act is specifically targeted at nonviolent actions like blockades, since violent acts are already illegal (and roundly condemned by pro-life leaders). Its explicit purpose is to shut down peaceful rescues like the one Herb joined at the Washington Surgi-Clinic in 2020. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because that is the third-trimester abortion center of “Justice for the Five” infamy.
The notion that Herb in particular would commit an act of violence is laughable. He is the Executive Director of Rehumanize International, a pacifist organization. He is also a vegan, a liberal, and a dear friend. But Biden administration officials are painting him as a dangerous extremist, and his charges carry up to eleven years in prison.
To the best of our knowledge, Herb is the first atheist to be charged under the FACE Act. The secular pro-life community must rally to his defense!
Herb’s trial is set to begin in three weeks. Our friends at Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) are asking pro-lifers to pack the court on Wednesday, August 9.
